The Shark Angling Club of Great Britain hold a three day ‘Catch and Release’ shark angling festival each year from the port of Looe. This July was no exception and Charlie Boy caught and safely released an amazing 8 blue sharks over the three days. They were challenging fishing conditions with the heatwaves having produced large algae blooms – but we kept on catching each day and our anglers had an awesome time.

Angling for blue sharks is an exciting experience. It’s a real thrill to feel the initial strike, the run of the line, and the sheer power of the fish as it fights back. The anticipation builds as you prepare the chum and wet your lines, waiting for the heart-pounding moment a reel sings or a balloon dips underwater, that signals a potential catch. The fight itself is physically demanding, requiring strength and stamina, and the awe-inspiring sight of a blue shark alongside the boat is a rewarding culmination of the effort.  To release these magnificent fish back into the sea to live another day is the icing on the cake and ensures we play our part in conserving their stocks for years to come.
